The Trichocereus is a columnar cactus that typically grows to be over five meters tall, although potted collection plants are usually only two meters tall. Its bright green new growth is characterized by 7-9 rounded ribs and areoles spaced 1-2 centimeters apart. This cactus has a dense covering of strong spines, which are often yellow or dark brown when new and turn dark gray to white with subtle black undertones or black tips with age. The spines typically measure 5-10 centimeters in length.
