Tradescantia spathacea, commonly known as 'Moses-in-the-cradle', is a plant native to Central and South America. This clumping, broadleaf evergreen is a member of the spiderwort family (Commelinaceae) and is also referred to as Oyster Plant or boatlily. It features sword-shaped leaves with a purple underside and a green to metallic grey segment. Its native range extends from southern Mexico to Guatemala and it typically grows to a height of 6 inches to 1 foot and a width of 1 to 2 feet. Formerly known as Rhoeo spathacea, the plant is often still listed under that name.
