This particular variety of cactus, known as Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus or 'Paper Spine Cactus', is distinct with its elongated, flattened pseudo-spines that closely resemble raffia. The segmented stems develop a knobby appearance and are capable of growing quite tall as they branch and stack over time. Although it may not bloom easily, the stem segments can be readily re-rooted as they break off with ease.
