Tephrocactus alexanderii, commonly known as the 'Indian Ball Cactus,' is a fascinating and unique cactus species native to Argentina. This cactus is easily recognized by its striking, ball-shaped segments that form a spiny, globular cluster. Typically growing to about 6 to 12 inches in height, each segment is bright green and covered with sharp, white to yellow spines that radiate out from the surface, giving it a spiky, textured look. The segments are often described as "ball-like" because they appear as distinct, rounded units, giving the cactus an interesting, segmented structure. In late spring or early summer, Tephrocactus alexanderii may produce small, pink or white flowers that emerge from the apex of the segments, adding a delicate pop of color to its otherwise rugged appearance. This species thrives in well-draining soil and enjoys full sunlight, making it a great addition to desert landscapes, succulent gardens, or as a potted specimen. Its unusual form, combined with its hardy nature, makes it a favorite among cactus collectors.
