Sansevieria ‘Futura Superba’ (Snake Plant) is a tough and attractive houseplant known for its upright, sword-shaped leaves with dark green centers, gray-green horizontal banding, and distinctive yellow margins. Its compact, rosette-like growth habit makes it an excellent choice for desks, shelves, containers, and low-maintenance indoor plant collections. It tolerates a wide range of lighting conditions, from low light to bright indirect light, although brighter light can help maintain its strong coloration. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings and use a well-draining soil mix, as overwatering is one of the most common causes of problems.
Pet friendly: No. Sansevieria (now botanically classified under Dracaena) contains saponins and is considered toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Consumption may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, drooling, or diarrhea, so it is best kept away from pets that like to chew on plants.
Hardiness:USDA Zones 9–11. ‘Futura Superba’ is sensitive to frost and prolonged cold temperatures. In cooler climates, it is best grown as a houseplant or brought indoors before temperatures approach freezing.
