This particular variety of Pachypodium lealii, known as Saundersii, is considered to be one of the most low-maintenance and rapid growing of all South African Pachypodium species. Originating from Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and other regions of Southern Africa (including KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and Swaziland), this succulent thrives in dry, sunlight-filled areas with rocky terrain and tends to take root in crevices within granite rock formations.

Pachypodium lealii var. Saundersii is a succulent plant with a swollen, pot-bellied stem that is dormant in winter. When leafless, it should be kept completely dry. In the spring, it produces clusters of large, showy, white flowers with pink to purple tinges on the outside of the corolla. These flowers have a greenish color on the inside and are pollinated by moths due to their long, tubular shape. The fruit is a horn-shaped cylindrical follicle that spreads out at a right angle when mature. It is spindle-shaped, compressed, and pale to dark brown, with longitudinal lines along the outside.

Please Note: Plant will ship bare root with little to no dirt, and you will receive a plant similar to the one in the photo. It is advised to handle this plant with caution and use gloves or tongs as it is covered in spines.
