Pachypodium lamerei, commonly known as the Madagascar Palm, is a striking succulent tree native to Madagascar, despite not being a true palm. It features a thick, spiny gray trunk that stores water, topped with a crown of long, narrow, leathery green leaves that resemble palm fronds—giving the plant its common name. In warm climates or mature indoor specimens, Pachypodium lamerei may produce fragrant, white, trumpet-shaped flowers in the summer. This plant thrives in bright, direct sunlight and well-draining soil, and it is highly drought-tolerant once established. Though slow-growing, it can eventually reach heights of 4–6 feet indoors and much taller outdoors. With its dramatic form and low-maintenance care, Pachypodium lamerei 'Madagascar Palm' is a favorite among succulent and exotic plant collectors. Pachypodium lamerei is considered toxic to pets if ingested and is not pet friendly for cats and dogs, as its sap and tissues can cause irritation or digestive upset.
