Pachypodium lamerei, commonly known as the Madagascar Palm, is a striking succulent tree native to Madagascar, despite not being a true palm. It features a thick, spiny gray trunk that stores water, topped with a crown of long, narrow, leathery green leaves that resemble palm fronds—giving the plant its common name. In warm climates or mature indoor specimens, Pachypodium lamerei may produce fragrant, white, trumpet-shaped flowers in the summer. This plant thrives in bright, direct sunlight and well-draining soil, and it is highly drought-tolerant once established. Though slow-growing, it can eventually reach heights of 4–6 feet indoors and much taller outdoors. With its dramatic form and low-maintenance care, Pachypodium lamerei 'Madagascar Palm' is a favorite among succulent and exotic plant collectors.
