Opuntia pilifera is a distinctive species of prickly pear cactus recognized for its rounded to oval pads covered with long, hair-like white spines that give the plant a soft, fuzzy appearance. Native to central Mexico, it is well adapted to arid and semi-arid environments, thriving in full sun, high heat, and well-drained soils. This species typically forms low, spreading clumps and produces yellow to orange flowers followed by small fruits. Valued primarily as an ornamental cactus, Opuntia pilifera is appreciated for its unusual texture, drought tolerance, and suitability for xeriscapes and container growing in warm, dry climates.

Please Note: Plant will ship bare root with little to no dirt, you will receive a plant similar to the one in the photo. Opuntia species have glochids, which are small, barbed bristles that can easily detach from the plant. When shipping, these glochids may become loose in the box and can pierce skin and leather gloves. For safe handling, use tongs.
