The Notocactus militaris, also known as Parodia scopa subsp. militaris or Parodia ottonis, is a small, globular cactus prized for its dense covering of golden-yellow spines and bright, cheerful flowers. Typically growing in a spherical or slightly cylindrical shape, this cactus stays compact, making it perfect for small containers or rock gardens. During the flowering season, it produces vibrant yellow to orange blooms that contrast beautifully with its spiny body. Hardy and relatively easy to care for, the Notocactus militaris prefers full sun to partial shade, well-draining soil, and infrequent watering—especially in winter when it goes dormant. Its unique texture and vivid flowers make it a standout addition to any cactus collection.
