Melocactus neryi

This species of cactus, known as Melocactus neryi, can be easily identified by its cephalium - a bristle and wool covered structure at the top of the plant which contains clusters of areoles that produce small flowers. The fruits of Melocactus neryi are pink and have a similar appearance to pepper fruits. This particular genus of cactus consists of approximately 30-40 different species, with a majority originating from the Americas, including species found along the Andes up to southern Peru and a high concentration in northeastern Brazil.
