Kalanchoe × houghtonii is a drought-resistant succulent with a single, erect stem that yields boat-shaped leaves with serrated edges, as well as plantlets along the margins. The stem can reach a height of 30 inches (75 cm). Its leaves are fleshy, ranging in color from emerald green to brownish-green, and often bear purple spots on the underside. The flowers, which appear in winter, are pendent and typically deep red, sometimes with shades of orange or yellow, and can grow up to 1.2 inches (3 cm) long. The inflorescence is a compact cluster of up to 100 or more flowers and can reach up to 3.3 feet (1 m) tall.
