Kalanchoe thyrsiflora ‘Flapjack’ is a bold, sculptural succulent known for its large, paddle-shaped leaves that stack in a rosette and develop striking red edges when exposed to bright sunlight. Often called “paddle plant,” it has a powdery, blue-green coating that gives it a soft, matte appearance while helping protect it from intense light. Native to South Africa, it thrives in bright, sunny conditions and well-draining soil, making it a popular choice for containers and drought-tolerant gardens. As it matures, it can produce a tall flower spike with fragrant yellow blooms, though the main rosette typically dies back afterward, leaving offsets to continue growing. This plant is not pet-friendly, as it is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.
