Gymnocalycium saglionis, commonly known as the Giant Chin Cactus, is a robust and slow-growing cactus species native to northwestern Argentina. It is one of the largest species in the Gymnocalycium genus, with mature specimens forming large, solitary globular to short cylindrical stems that can reach over 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter. The body is typically gray-green to blue-green with pronounced ribs and areoles bearing thick, curved spines that vary in color from white to reddish-brown. In late spring to summer, Gymnocalycium saglionis produces elegant, funnel-shaped flowers that range in color from white to pale pink, often with a pinkish midstripe, emerging from the crown. This species prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining soil, and it is especially valued for its dramatic form, drought tolerance, and ability to thrive with minimal care—making it a favorite among cactus enthusiasts and collectors.
