Frailea phaeodisca is a small, solitary cactus known for its compact, rounded shape and distinctive dark green to purplish body, often accented by subtle ribbing and fine, short spines. Native to South America, it thrives in warm, dry conditions with well-draining soil and minimal watering, making it a great choice for collectors who appreciate low-maintenance plants. This species is also notable for its tendency toward cleistogamy, meaning it can produce seeds without fully opening its flowers. When it comes to pets, Frailea phaeodisca is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, but like most cacti, its spines can cause physical irritation or injury if touched or ingested, so it’s best kept out of reach of curious pets.
