Ferocactus emoryi
Ferocactus emoryi
Ferocactus emoryi, also known as Emory’s Barrel Cactus, is a striking and robust species native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This slow-growing cactus typically forms a large, barrel-shaped body that can reach up to 6 feet in height and about 2 feet in diameter. Its green, ribbed surface is adorned with prominent, stout spines that range from yellow to reddish-brown, radiating outwards in a dramatic fashion. These spines, along with the plant’s striking silhouette, give it a bold and sculptural appearance. In late spring to early summer, Ferocactus emoryi produces large, funnel-shaped flowers that are often bright yellow or orange with a reddish center, creating a stunning contrast against the cactus’s spiny exterior. This species thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, making it a perfect choice for arid landscapes, desert gardens, or as a statement plant in succulent collections. Its impressive size and unique spination make it a favorite among cactus enthusiasts.
