Echinocereus ‘Nicholii’ 'Golden Hedgehog'
Echinocereus ‘Nicholii’ 'Golden Hedgehog'
Echinocereus nicholii, also known as 'Golden Hedgehog', is a large, sturdy plant with long stems that curve upright and form clusters of up to 30 stems. These stems are densely covered with golden spines, giving the plant a chartreuse appearance similar to the golden barrel cactus. The small pink or pale lavender flowers provide a beautiful contrast to the yellow spines. Typically, the plant reaches 30-60(-80) cm in height and 60-120 cm in width, with 16-24 or more stems branching near the ground. The stems are 6-9 cm in diameter and grow erect or ascending. To best cultivate this plant, use a mineral-rich, well-draining soil with minimal organic matter. This species is native to limestone areas in Texas and Mexico, so supplementing with calcium may benefit its growth.
It is advised to handle this plant with caution and use gloves as it is covered in spines. Plant will ship bare root with little to no dirt. You will receive a plant similar to the one in the photo.
