Beaucarnea recurvata, commonly known as the elephant's foot or ponytail palm, is a perennial plant from the Asparagaceae family. Originally found in multiple states in eastern Mexico, it is now primarily found in the state of Veracruz. This evergreen species has a distinctive expanded caudex, used for water storage, and can grow up to 15 feet 6 inches (4.72 m). Its palm-like stem produces tufts of strap-shaped, leathery leaves that curve back, sometimes resembling locks of hair on the ends. At about 10 years old, it may produce panicles of small white flowers.
