Titanopsis calcarea 'Concrete Leaf' is a fascinating, compact succulent known for its unusual, stone-like leaves that closely resemble pieces of limestone or concrete. The blue-green to gray-green leaves are covered with rough, warty textures and often develop attractive pink, cream, or reddish tones along the tips when exposed to bright light. This slow-growing mesemb is an excellent choice for collectors and rock gardens, especially when planted in a gritty, sharply draining soil. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry thoroughly between waterings, and provide plenty of bright light while protecting it from prolonged exposure to intense afternoon heat.
Pet friendly: Yes. Titanopsis calcarea is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a suitable succulent for pet-friendly homes, although eating any plant material may cause mild digestive upset.
Hardiness: Titanopsis calcarea is generally hardy in approximately USDA Zones 9–11. It is sensitive to frost and prolonged cold temperatures, so it should be protected from freezing conditions and grown indoors or in a sheltered container in colder climates.
