As a solitary to clumping species with a squat and highly ribbed stem, Thelocactus rinconensis is the largest in its genus and displays a variety of sizes, stem and spine colors. The stems, which can be light-glaucous or green tinged with purple, are covered in tubercles tipped with dark-brown, silver, grey, or yellow spines. Mature plants, generally 5 to 9 years old, may produce white or pink flowers with yellow accents at the base of the petals. Flowering typically occurs from mid-March to mid-September, with low to moderate watering recommended from March to October and no watering necessary during winter. To encourage winter dormancy, it is important to protect the bird's-nest cactus from high atmospheric humidity and provide full sun exposure during the winter months. In the summer, partial shade in the form of morning sun and afternoon protection is ideal, as plants grown in shade will have deeper coloring than those exposed.

Please Note: Plant will ship bare root with little to no dirt, and you will receive a plant similar to the one in the photo. It is advised to handle this plant with caution and use gloves as it is covered in spines.
