Stenocereus eruca, commonly known as the Creeping Devil Cactus, is a rare and fascinating cactus species native to the desert regions of Baja California. Unlike most upright cacti, this unusual plant grows horizontally along the ground, slowly “crawling” as older sections die off and new growth continues from the tip. Its long sprawling stems are covered in dense spines and can eventually form dramatic winding colonies in the landscape. Highly prized by collectors for its bizarre growth habit and striking appearance, the Creeping Devil Cactus thrives in full sun, warm temperatures, and extremely well-draining soil with minimal watering once established. It is drought tolerant but sensitive to prolonged frost and excessive moisture. This cactus is considered pet friendly in terms of toxicity, though its sharp spines can still cause injury or irritation if touched by pets or people.
