Senecio jacobsenii, also known as Trailing Jade, is often confused with Crassula Jades due to their similar appearance. Contrary to popular belief, this variety is not related to the latter and is native to the highlands of Tanzania and Kenya. It is commonly used as a ground cover, but also thrives in hanging pots where its thick stems can form a lush cascade up to 4.0 feet in length. The spoon-shaped leaves of Trailing Jade grow upright on their stems, and when exposed to moderate stress from bright sun or drought, they can display vibrant shades ranging from lilac to magenta. While this variety is known for its showy flowers, it is not a reliable bloomer. The flowers, which resemble a paintbrush and are bright orange in color, have a strong fragrance that is not appealing to everyone. However, removing the blooms will not harm the plant and is an easy task.
