Senecio barbertonicus 'Succulent Bush Senecio'

This particular evergreen subshrub, Senecio barbertonicus, can reach heights of 3 to 5 feet with a corresponding spread, and can become taller if given some support. Its fleshy stems are somewhat brittle and bear bright green, 2 inch long, rounded succulent leaves that grow upwards along the branches and are tightly packed towards the stem tips. The flowers, usually appearing in late fall and winter, form in bright orange-yellow clusters at the terminal ends of the plant. It is best to plant this succulent in full sun to light shade, in well-drained or sandy soil, and to water only sparingly. Our experience has shown that this plant can withstand temperatures at least as low as the mid-20s Fahrenheit. A lovely addition to any landscape, this green-leafed succulent can maintain its compact, shrub-like form even in open spaces.
