Sansevieria zeylanica, often called Ceylon Bowstring Hemp, is a hardy, upright-growing succulent known for its sword-like, dark green leaves adorned with wavy, horizontal gray-green stripes. Native to Sri Lanka and parts of Southeast Asia, it closely resembles the popular Sansevieria trifasciata (now both reclassified under the genus Dracaena), but typically has slightly more arching leaves and a more rugged, natural appearance. S. zeylanica is extremely low-maintenance, thriving in a variety of lighting conditions from low indoor light to bright indirect sunlight, and requires infrequent watering due to its drought-tolerant nature. It's also praised for its air-purifying qualities and resistance to pests and diseases. This plant is ideal for both homes and offices, especially for those seeking a tough, sculptural plant that adds greenery without demanding attention.
