Portulacaria Afra Tricolor
Portulacaria Afra Tricolor
Portulacaria afra 'Tricolor', also known as Variegated Elephant Bush, is a beautiful and colorful succulent shrub native to South Africa. This striking cultivar features small, round, fleshy leaves with creamy white and soft pink margins, contrasting elegantly against reddish stems. The pink hues become more pronounced with increased sun exposure, adding to its ornamental appeal. Despite its delicate appearance, Portulacaria afra 'Tricolor' is a hardy, drought-tolerant plant that thrives in bright light and well-draining soil, requiring minimal water. It can be grown as a low-maintenance houseplant, bonsai specimen, or as ground cover in warm climates. In addition to its aesthetic value, this plant plays an important ecological role in its native habitat as a "carbon sponge," absorbing high levels of carbon from the atmosphere.
