The Mammillaria herrerae 'Golf Ball Cactus' is a compact plant with round or slightly elongated stems, adorned with clusters of white spines. It typically reaches heights of 3.2 inches (8 cm) and diameters of 1.4 inches (3.5 cm). It usually grows alone, but may occasionally cluster from the base. Its diurnal flowers are larger than most Mammillaria species, measuring 20-25 mm and ranging in color from pale pink to red-violet.
