Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Teddy Bear'

Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Teddy Bear' is a charming, fuzzy-leaved succulent prized for its soft, velvety appearance and warm brown markings. Native to Madagascar, this compact plant features thick, silvery-green leaves covered in fine hairs, with distinctive chocolate-brown edges and tips that give it a cuddly, teddy-bear-like appearance. Its upright, branching growth habit allows it to develop into an attractive small succulent shrub over time, making it a wonderful choice for windowsills, containers, succulent gardens, and decorative arrangements.

This easy-care succulent thrives in bright light and can tolerate several hours of direct sunlight once gradually acclimated. Plant it in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix and allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Teddy Bear' is drought tolerant and stores water in its thick leaves, so it is much more tolerant of occasional dryness than consistently wet soil. Avoid overwatering and provide good air circulation to help prevent rot. Its fuzzy leaves are also sensitive to prolonged moisture, so watering at the base of the plant is preferable.

Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Teddy Bear' is not pet friendly. Like other Kalanchoe species, it can be toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Consumption may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal symptoms, and larger amounts can result in more serious effects. It is best kept somewhere pets cannot reach or chew on the plant.

USDA Hardiness Zones: 9–11. In colder climates, Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Teddy Bear' is best grown as a container plant and brought indoors before temperatures approach freezing. With its soft texture, distinctive brown markings, and low-maintenance nature, this adorable succulent makes a unique addition to any plant collection.
