Kalanchoe pumila is a charming, low-growing succulent native to Madagascar, known for its vibrant, soft foliage and compact, trailing growth habit. This plant forms a dense mat of round, silvery-grey leaves that are covered in a fine powdery coating, giving it a soft, fuzzy texture. The leaves are often tinged with purple or pink edges, particularly when the plant is stressed or exposed to bright sunlight. In late winter to early spring, Kalanchoe pumila produces small, star-shaped flowers in vibrant hues of pink, red, or orange, creating a striking contrast against its greyish leaves. Its trailing nature makes it an excellent choice for hanging baskets, containers, or ground cover in rock gardens. Kalanchoe pumila thrives in well-draining soil and requires minimal watering, making it an ideal choice for dry, arid climates or xeriscaping. It prefers bright, indirect light and can tolerate some direct sunlight, though too much intense sun may scorch its leaves. This hardy succulent is well-suited for USDA hardiness zones 9-11 and is a lovely, low-maintenance addition to any succulent garden.
