Ferocactus gracilis 'Fire Barrel Cactus': is an attractive cactus that features a solitary deep green stem adorned with 24 ribs and felted areoles. These areoles produce clusters of 7 to 13 reddish central spines tipped with yellow, as well as 8 to 12 whitish radial spines. The stem is initially globular, but as it ages, it becomes cylindrical. This slow-growing cactus can reach up to 5 feet (1.5 m) in height and 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter. Its central spines are slightly curved and can grow up to 1.6 inches (4 cm) in length, while its radial spines are slender and spreading, measuring up to 2.4 inches (6 cm) long. In the summer, Ferocactus gracilis produces diurnal flowers in shades of golden yellow or reddish, with a distinct dark red stripe running down the center of each petal.
