Ferocactus latispinus is a striking barrel cactus best known for its broad, flattened central spines that curve dramatically and range in color from deep red to purplish or gray. Native to central Mexico, this slow-growing cactus forms a squat, rounded body with pronounced ribs that add to its bold, sculptural look. In fall, mature plants may produce showy purple to yellow flowers at the crown. Highly drought-tolerant and long-lived, it thrives in bright light, warm temperatures, and well-draining soil, making it a standout specimen for cactus collections and desert-style gardens.
