Edithcolea Grandis 'Persian Carpet Flower'
Edithcolea Grandis 'Persian Carpet Flower'
Edithcolea grandis, commonly known as the Persian Carpet Flower, is a remarkable and exotic succulent prized for its large, star-shaped flowers that feature intricate patterns resembling a richly woven Persian carpet. Native to arid regions of East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, this stem succulent has fleshy, mottled green stems with small soft spines and thrives in hot, dry climates. The spectacular blooms—typically yellow with maroon spots and a fringed edge—emit a carrion-like odor to attract pollinators like flies, similar to other members of the Stapeliad group. Despite its beauty, it requires excellent drainage, full sun, and careful watering to prevent rot. Its dramatic appearance and rarity make it a prized specimen for collectors of unusual and exotic succulents.
