Aloinopsis schooneesii is a compact, slow-growing succulent native to the arid regions of South Africa, specifically the Eastern Cape. It forms tight rosettes of thick, triangular, warty leaves that are olive green to brownish in color and textured with rough, tubercled surfaces—an adaptation to its dry, rocky habitat. During late winter to early spring, it produces daisy-like flowers in shades of yellow to orange, often opening in the afternoon sun. Like many mesembs, Aloinopsis schooneesii prefers bright light, excellent drainage, and infrequent watering, especially during its summer dormancy. Overwatering or poor airflow can quickly lead to rot, so care should be taken to mimic its natural dry conditions. Its unique leaf texture and cold tolerance make it a prized addition to alpine succulent collections and rock gardens.
