Aloe marlothii 'Mountain Aloe'

This succulent plant, known as Aloe marlothii 'Mountain Aloe', is a sizable evergreen specimen that forms a dense rosette of fleshy, grayish-green leaves, measuring up to 5 feet (150 cm) in length. Covered in reddish-brown spines along the edges and randomly on the upper and lower surfaces, the leaves remain even after drying, creating a "petticoat" on the stem. The single-stemmed Mountain Aloe boasts a spreading, branched panicle with up to 30 racemes that grow outward in a mostly horizontal fashion. Its tubular flowers range in color from orange-red to yellow or bright red, making a bold and striking statement in sunny borders or decorative containers, and attracting nectar-feeding birds.
