Opuntia monacantha, also known as 'Drooping Prickly Pear', is a shrubby or tree-like cactus with a glossy green stem and irregular margins. Its trunk can reach up to 20 feet (6 m) tall and 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter, with oblong or lance-shaped stem segments that can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) long and 5 inches (12.5 cm) wide. This cactus has spines that are mostly unequal, white to brown in color with yellow or red markings, and up to 2 inches (5 cm) long. Additionally, it has yellowish to reddish brown glochids.
