Hamatocactus hamatacanthus, also known as the 'Mexican Fruit Cactus' or 'Turk's-head,' is a cactus species characterized by an erect, spherical to short cylindrical stem with 12 to 17 prominent, narrow to rounded, tuberculate ribs. Its stems can reach heights of up to 24 inches (60 cm) and diameters of 12 inches (30 cm), and are adorned with pinkish-brown or straw-colored spines. Each areole holds 4 to 8 central and 8 to 20 radial spines, which can grow up to 6.6 inches (16.5 cm) and 3.2 inches (8 cm) in length, respectively. This species produces funnel-shaped, yellow flowers with well-developed floral tubes, measuring 4 inches (10 cm) in length and 3.8 inches (9.5 cm) in diameter, appearing at the top of the stem during the summer
